The Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) contacted us to create an innovative and participatory experience for their booth at Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona. Their main goal was to showcase the extraordinary properties of graphene in a mobile ecosystem. With these ideas in mind, the ProtoPixel team ideated and developed The Heart-Grid, an interactive lighting installation inspired in the honeycomb-like structure of the graphene.
Through this LED grid we visualized the heart-rate variability of visitors (extracted using a graphene sensor) through a lightning beat that spread through the whole grid. The beat also changed its color according to a lighting sensor made out of graphene. When the visitor withdrawn her hand from the heart-rate sensor, her data was stored in one of the hexagons of the grid, as a “beating unit”. In this way, a mosaic of heart-beats was created as the congress evolved.
